Mercury goes retrograde about three to four times a year.
According to most astrologers, Mercury represents the power of the mind. When Mercury is retrograde, we tend to miss important details and cause misunderstandings through bad communication.
During retrograde, we can experience technical malfunctions (computers, cars etc.), miss business opportunities or even fall prey to past bad relationships (old partners, prior business relationships).
This is why the common advice during retrograde is to refrain from signing contracts, making major commitments or undertaking major new endeavors.
It’s not all bad!
Mercury retrograde gives us time to catch up with ourselves, and to take a look back. Something from the past might return in a different form. This can mean people, ideas or buried insights that need to surface for you to move forward.
Often it's felt as an introspective time, depending on the sign, a chance to go over old ground again, to claim what you missed the first time.
